Guruvayoor is in the Thrissur district of Kerala. It is one of the prominent worship centers of Keralites, also one of the busiest temples of Kerala. The temple is very famous among the South Indians and considered to be one of the holiest spots for Vaishnavites (Vishnu followers). Where, non- Hindu’s are not allowed in the temple. The temple is said to be established in 3000 B.C which is over 5000 years ago.
The deity here is Lord Krishna, the incarnation of Lord Vishnu. The idol is a standing posture of Lord Krishna with four arms, the majestic figure representing the image of Lord Vishnu when he appeared in front of Lord Krishna’s parents during his birth. The morning darshan called the Nirmalyam which is around 3 o’clock is the most auspicious one. Classical dance and music shows are held in the Melpathur Auditorium in the temple premise on all special days.
